Türkmenabat, formerly Amul, Cärjew/Chardzhou, and Novy Chardzhuy, is the second-largest city in Turkmenistan and the administrative centre of Lebap Province. As of 2022, it had a population of approximately 231,000 people. From 1924 to 1927, it was also named Leninsk in honor of Vladimir Lenin.
